Balvonie House is situated in the village of Skelmorlie (PA17 5BP) on the scenic west coast of Scotland. Skelmorlie is a beautiful, traditional Scottish coastal village of note built on a hill above the River Clyde. We are conveniently siutated just 45mins drive or bus/train from Glasgow Airport and we have a 22kW Electric Vehicle charger available for use by guests.
If you can manage to leave the sanctuary of the house, within the village of Skelmorlie, you will be within a gentle walk of the local pub and the general store. On the Shore Road, directly below the house, you’ll find a welcoming café with truly immense views across the water. A 15 minute walk towards Wemyss Bay will reward you with a choice of 2 cafes, a butcher and delicatessen and the restored heritage station. From the Wemyss Bay station you can catch a ferry to the Isle of Bute where you can visit the world renowned Mount Stewart (venue for Stella McCartney’s wedding) or you could catch a train directly to Glasgow. Heading towards Largs, just 10 minutes along the Shore Road and you’ll find a traditional Victorian seaside promenade complete with gourmet fish & chips. Don’t forget the world-class ice-cream at Nardinis. From Largs you can catch a ferry to Cumbrae where you can hire a bicycle to wheel you around track which circles the whole island.
From Gourock, just 15 minutes away, there are two ferries headed for Dunoon. From there you can spend the day exploring Loch Fyne, driving along the Kyles of Bute towards Tighnabruaich or head for Portavadie, the modern marina and spa complex.
Further afield, you can reach the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond with its championship golf course, the birthplace of Robbie Burns or the majesty of Culzean Castle all within an hour.
